Study Printing TechnologyIt was in Ancient China that Printing Technology began in the form of woodblock printing. The early Chinese used this printing technique to print texts, images, and patterns on textiles and, later, on paper. Early Egyptians and Japanese also used this kind of printing technique as well as in Mesopotamia although the Mesopotamian civilization used cylinder seals which were rolled on clay tablets. The earliest traces of printing to survive up to this day was from China, dated before 220 BC, and was composed of flowers in the three colors of the Han dynasty printed on silk. It was not until the mid-century in Europe did the movable type of printing press was conceived in 1439 by Johannes Gutenberg of Mainz, Germany. The movable type was greater both in speed and durability compared to woodblock printing which was the reason why it quickly spread all throughout Europe, resulting to the Renaissance. Gutenberg was also to be credited for his idea of using oil-based ink to replace water-based ones. With the invention of the printing press, knowledge was easily spread through books and communication became a lot easier. Printing Technology is a program that helps students gain the needed skills to plan, prepare, and complete print jobs. Students will also gain skills in assembling film, operating printing equipment, and cutting and collating finished products. This two-year long program is perfect for students who want to pursue a higher degree in Printing Technology as well as those who are interested in the printing industry. After finishing this program, students will be able to design and prepare the copy for publication, utilize computer publishing software, decide and apply appropriate color theory to the design and copy for publication, bind and finish a printed document, and also to manage technical workers. Printing Technology greatly improved as time passed with the development of high-tech products, however, its purpose remained the same: to produce or reproduce texts and images to make knowledge and communication more tangible; which is why commercial printing is one of the largest industries in the world. Having great knowledge and technical skills in a large industry such as this, graduates of this program have a lot of career paths to follow including, but not limited to, camera operators, design printing machine setters, set-up operators, dot etchers, electronic masking system operators, printing press machine operators & tenders, job printers, and precision printing workshop.
