It's a college without departments, dedicated to the study of values. Students are taught in small classes and one-to-one tutorials by a select faculty from disciplines like philosophy, literature, political theory, art history, and film theory. Academic programmes include a six-week International Summer University, one-year programmes for undergraduates and recent graduates (Academy Year and Project Year), and a B.A. Programme in Value Studies. Possible areas of concentration are Art and Aesthetics, Ethics and Political Theory, and Literature and Rhetoric. Philanthropic grants allow the college to have a need-blind admissions policy and no qualified student is turned away for lack of funding. Students and faculty come from all over the world and work together in English. ECLA is also working towards German accreditation. | | More information about Academic Programs: | | Applications are now invited for the new B.A. programme in Value Studies at the European College of Liberal Arts (Berlin, Germany). This is the first interdisciplinary degree programme world-wide to be structured around the concept of value. ECLA is a college without departments where students work with faculty from different backgrounds on moral, political, epistemic, religious, and aesthetic questions, with the understanding that such questions are naturally and deeply connected. The B.A. programme is designed for students with a strong theoretical bent, who want to combine their pursuit of special interests with a demanding studium generale. Available areas of concentration are Art and Aesthetics, Ethics and Political Theory, and Literature and Rhetoric. The programme provides good preparation for continued study in fields such as philosophy, literature, political theory, and art history; and excellent support for students interested in careers in politics, organizational work, public policy, law, journalism, or the art world.
ECLA students and faculty come from all over the world and work together in English. Students live together on an attractive, green campus in the north-east of Berlin. Contact the admissions office if in doubt at admissions@ecla.de | | Language Requirements: | | ECLA's programmes are taught entirely in English. Therefore, applications should possess the knowledge of English equivalent to Level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages | | Fees: | | The comprehensive fee for the nine-month Academy Year and Project Year, as well as annual fee for the BA programme, is 15,000 EUR per year. The comprehensive fee for the International Summer University is 4,500 EUR. The fee covers tuition, accommodation and food, emergency health insurance coverage for non-German students, access to a sports and fitness centre and computer and Internet access. Books may be purchased or borrowed from ECLA. Project Year students also receive passes for the Berlin Staatsbibliothek (public library). | | Financial Aid: | | Philanthropic grants allow ECLA to have a need-blind admissions policy and no qualified student is turned away for lack of funding. Financial aid decisions are made on an individual basis and do not influence the admissions process. | | Housing: | | ECLA’s three student houses are spacious buildings, originally designed and built to host the Egyptian and Cuban Embassies to the former German Democratic Republic. The Plattenbau structures are newly renovated, and are situated on a green campus with landscaped gardens and lawn areas. Each house has laundry facilities, a computer lab, a lounge and a kitchen. A study room with space for twenty students, an art room and a room for student projects are also located in the student houses. Students play badminton, soccer and table tennis in the grassy enclosure between the buildings.
The ECLA dining room is just a block from the houses, while administration and teaching facilities are a five-minute walk away.
