I loved this movie, it was the most exciting and entertaining movie I have seen in a long time, even couldn't understand much of the dialogue as I was limited to French subtitles. I don't know anything about history but it seemed very well made to me. Critics love to criticize Mel Gibson because of obvious reasons but his movies are amazing, as least for me. He’s a brilliant director.

I feel tremendously guilty for being trained in PR, only because you described it so accurately. This is yet another glaring example of how a company got away with murder by virtue of being First-World owned while the Third-World victims are expected to remain voiceless because their lives clearly cost so much less.
I would be sad, really I would, if I weren't quite so angry instead.

It is indeed appalling to read about all the different kind of violence that women undergo. When are we going to understand the meaning of equality? How many more centuries do we require to educate ourselves?

I had a conversation with my brother-in-law on precisely this subject last week. He is a lawyer of some standing and was telling me he challenged the High Court in Bombay that even an institution such as the court itself, that exists to provide citizens with equal rights, has no means of access for disabled people, after which a ramp was built that would do more harm than good. Yet another appeal later, the contract was given to a decent company who made a permanent, usable one. A small victory, I know...but at least baby steps are being taken.

I'm with you on this one. It also depends on where one comes from, what one is used to, and whether one wishes to continue with the familiar or erase the past and cross over to the unfamiliar. Born and raised in Bombay, I didn't think I'd particularly miss the traffic, chaos and throngs of humanity when I moved to the United States. And I didn't. Until I moved to small-town Pennsylvania and the silence ate at me until I drowned myself in New York City.
On the flip side, there was a colleague who went through such horrors in her home city of Kiev that she wanted the exact opposite to help her forget. So our choices also depend on our personal histories, and not just rational, supposedly sensible, clear-cut choices. Loved the way you crafted this article. :)

Ouch. At this is only being brought to our attention because the child is something of a celebrity. Imagine the plight of millions of mute, less famous others with no one to speak for them. Thank you for this lovely article. Would be interested in knowing what we in India can do, since the solution given here is clearly U.S.-oriented.

@RF
The purpose of this blog is to provide information as well as offer personal opinion. On the eve of 9/11, I was interested to see what people were talking about and that is what I pointed to. Perhaps, I should have made it clearer that I did not necessarily endorse the opinions expressed in these articles. Thanks to you I have posted a disclaimer.

However, while it is important to argue with foolishness, it is also important to not ignore it. One can sweep views under the carpet and move in rarefied circles and forget that there are others out there. Doesn't make them disappear. The fact that the article appeared on Counter Currents is also interesting because the website often carries other sensible "humanist" articles. The purpose of this blog is to highlight different aspects precisely so that people know and talk about just as you did. I didn't expect to be made accountable for other people's views though. Perhaps, the site needs a general disclaimer.
