The Economy of Afghanistan

The currency of Afghanistan is the Afghani, which is divided in 100 puls.

Afghanistan is one of the poorest countries of the world. In terms of work and labor, the biggest problems are unemployment and the lack of civil employees and qualified workers.

Afghanistan depends heavily on agriculture, 61% of the population works cultivating dry, fruit cereals, fruits and cotton. Agriculture is developed in its majority in the northern plains where extensive flocks of ewes exist and carpet crafting is common. It has great natural gas reserves and an industry of textiles and food is in development.

The slow development of the Afghan economy is due, in part, to the permanent military presence that lies in the country, the lack of an effective central government and to fact that the society is fragmented in tribal groups.
