Health and Safety in Afghanistan

Afghanistan is a country far from having adequate equipment and medical facilities. Medicine from Europe and America is available in limited amounts as well as expensive and difficult to locate. Basic medicine from Iran, Pakistan and India, are available but they are not very trustworthy. In recent months a pair of private clinics in Kabul has been opened and offer routine care. The private hospital Shino Zada, located in Microrayon 4, provides general surgery, prenatal care, ambulances and pharmacy, 24 hours a day. Afghan public hospitals should be avoided. All medical treatment is paid in advance.

Afghanistan registers the second highest rate of maternal mortality world-wide. 15,000 women die a year by causes related to pregnancy. The rate of infantile mortality is 165 by 1,000. One of each four children dies before the age of 5. Only 23% of the population has access to potable water and 15.000 Afghans die per year by tuberculosis.

Many diseases can be contracted in Afghanistan, among them include Malaria, Hepatitis To, Hepatitis, Hepatitis B, fevers and Diarrheas. It is recommended to go vaccinated and to always drink prepared water.
