The Government in Anguilla

A British colony, Anguilla is a separate dependency under the British government. The British Monarch is represented by a Governor who presides over the Executive Council and is responsible for defense, external affairs, internal security, the public service and offshore finance. The Executive Council is led by the Chief Minister who advises the Governor on day-to-day matters of state.

The legislature comprises the House of Assembly, which is elected for five years and consists of seven elected members, two ex-officio members and two members nominated by the Governor.

The Judicial System is administered by the Magistrate's Court, the High Court, and the Court of Appeal of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court of Justice with a final right of appeal to the Privy Council in the U.K.
