The Climate in Armenia


Armenia has cold winters and hot summers, specially in mountainous areas.

The temperatures vary depending on the region.

In winters temperatures can fall to -22C (-40F). In the north of Armenia there are 50 to 60 days a year of snow hall.

In some areas of Armenia snow can be on the ground up to 7 months.

Summers in Armenia are dry and hot lasting from July to September. Temperatures can vary between 26°C (79°F) in the area of Yerevan and 42°C (108°F) in other areas.

Storm with strong winds and little rain are common. Summer droughts are common.

The nicest temperatures are in the plain of Ararat and to the southwest, also in the wooded mountains where tree protect from the sun and the wind storms.

Rain can fall all throughout the year, but it is mos common in the beginning of the winter in the form of snow and late in the spring.

Earthquakes are frequent in Armenia. The worst earthquake Armenia suffered was in 1988 when 25,000 people died.
