The Education System in Angola

Most children in Angola do not return to school after completion of the fourth grade of elementary education.

Children who wish to attend secondary education would have to do so at Luanda or another large city.

Luanda schools have three shifts. The first shift starts at 7 am. Second shift begins at 11 a. m. and third is 3 to 7 pm. The last shift is usually for adults.

Teachers usually teach during one shift only. Their salary is paid by the state, although there are no funds available for books or furniture.

Students have to bring everything to school. You might find estrange to see a young student walking to school carrying a chair on top of his head.

There are usually 50 students per class.
