The Government in Argentina


Argentina is a representative, federal republic since the Constitution of 1853.

The seat of federal government is Buenos Aires.

The legislative branch is a bicameral National Congress. The National Congress consists of the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies.

The National Congress approves the basic laws of the country such as those relate to civil, criminal, commerce, mining and aeronautic law.

In the executive branch there is a President elected by popular vote for a four year term. The President can be, and usually is, elected for a second term.

In the Judicial branch there is a Supreme Court of Justice of nine judges who are appointed by the president with approval by the Senate.
