 A Brief History of Australia
Between 1500 and 1600, explorers from Spain, Portugal and Holland arrived in Australia, where they found only arid land. Thinking that nothing could grow in such a dry place, they failed to stay permanently.
In 1770, Capitan James Cook of Great Britain' Royal Navy arrived at the east coast of Australia, where there was good cultivating soil. He called that area of the country New South Wales.
In 1788, the entire population of more than 1000 persons of a British prison, including guards and their families, were establish in New South Wales. With time, the British people established new colonies in other areas of Australia.
With time and as the free population increase becoming larger than the prisoners, a mover toward independence began.
In 1890 Australia's settlers wanted to become an independent nation.
January 1st of 1901 the Australian colonies ofilia become the State of Australia.
