Radio, Television and Cinema

During the soviet period, radio, TV, and film in Azerbaijan were controlled by the government. For that reason the programming amounted to propaganda for the most part.

After independence, programmers and film producers have struggled to find a course for their work.

At the movie houses of Azerbaijan old Russian films are usually played as well as American movies translated to Russian.

Transportation

Driving in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, as well as in most areas appears to be a little risky. Drivers don’t seem to mind the traffic laws, the pedestrians, or the other vehicles.

High speed driving is the cause for many serious accidents.

Roads are in need of repair and dangers are found everywhere, open wells, drains, and potholes.

Many roads are not paved.

Public transportation is in deficient condition and most times overcrowded.

It is not advisable to use the subway system in Baku, nor travel by train in the Great Caucasus.
