The Climate in Bulgaria

Bulgaria like with other European countries experiences 4 distinct seasons – spring, summer, autumn, and winter. The average temperature throughout the year is about 11°C. Sofia, the capital city, experiences from -4°C to 3°C in January and from 17°C to 26°C in July. The best period to visit Sofia is from April to June and September to November when the climate is not too cold or too hot. Because of its geographical landscapes, climate in Bulgaria can be also distinguished by region. Northern Bulgaria is characterized by a moderate continental weather with more rains than the rest of the country. Southern Bulgaria on the other hand experiences between continental and Mediterranean climate. Areas near the Black Sea coast feature a maritime and milder climate throughout but with strong winds and wilder storms in the winter. And regions at an altitude of around 1000 meter

above the sea level has mountainous climate with very cold winter.
