Education in Bahrain

You are here: Countries / Bahrain

Bahrain’s government strongly supports education. Its first public education system was established in 1919. In 1975 the education laws were changed, increasing from two to three years the time required to complete secondary education.

Today public education is free and compulsory for ages 6 to 15. Also, there are private religious schools throughout the country.

The people of Bahrain who complete a secondary education can continue their education at any of the universities of the country, including the University of Bahrain founded in 1986 in Manama.
