The Government in Brazil
Brazil is a federal republic and one of the largest democracies in the world. The President of Brazil is both head of state and head of government, and of a pluriform multi-party system. Executive power is exercised by the government while legislative power is vested in both the government and the two chambers of the National Congress. The Judiciary is independent of the executive and the legislature.
Brazil is divided into 26 states and a federal district for administrative purposes.
Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, popularly known as Lula, is the President of Brazil. He secured a second term in October 2006.
