Local Services in Botswana

Living in Botswana may sound a little bit like living on the wild side. However, in the cities, facilities are fairly reliable.

The power supply is stable. Brief power cuts happen rarely. Botswana uses 230 V AC (50Hz) and two types of electric socket are common: the modern British three-square-pin type, and a type with three round pins. Adaptor plugs are readily available.

The telephone system is expanding with the growth of mobile cellular service. The international country code is 267.

There are three radio stations, AM 8, FM 13, shortwave 4 (2001) and one television station. The Internet country code is .bw

Road transportation in the main towns is reliable. Botswana, along with the rest of the region, drives on the left. The main roads are well-maintained but there are safety issues because of speeding and excessive overtaking. Sometimes, there are animals on the road—mainly cattle, goats and donkeys. In the far north, wild animals such as elephants are common.
