Gastronomy in Belarus

Many of the restaurants serve Russian or Soviet dishes as well as international cuisine such as Italian, Chinese and Japanese. Some Belarusian dishes such as draniki (both plain and stuffed), boršč, haladnik, mačanka, zrazy, cold meat rolls, eggs stuffed with mushrooms, halubtsy, fried pork sausage and bliny as well as sour rye bread are also popular.

The Belarusian staple diet includes bread, potatoes, cabbage and pork with small breakfasts and hearty lunches and dinners. Commonly served dishes are kotleta po krestyansky", a mix of chopped pork in a mushroom sauce; a soup called shtchi and kalachi, which is a type of bread.

Kvass is the main local soft drink and local harelkas (vodkas) are very good, particularly those made of birch sap or forest herbs.
