The Republic of the Congo’s Ministry of Education gives much importance on the country’s education system. With more than 10% of its annual budget allocated for the education sector, the government of the Congo proves to its people that the education of Congolese students is their priority. Almost half of the budget on education goes to the primary level (40%) and the rest going to the secondary level (31%) and tertiary level (27%) of education.

Ecole Maternelle or Kindergarten is composed of 3 years and is attended by Congolese children aged 3 to 5 years old. However, attending kindergarten is not compulsory for all students.

Ecole Primaire or Primary Level is composed of 6 years which is divided into 3 parts: preparatory level for 2 years, elementary level for 2 years, and medium class for 2 years. On the last year of the primary level of education, students have to take the Secondary School Entrance Test to determine which school they can enter for the Secondary Level.

Ecole Secondaire or Secondary Level is composed of 7 years and is divided into 2 parts: college level for 4 years and lycee level for 3 years. College level is the standard secondary education while lycee is divided into 3 different categories wherein students will choose one: the Agricultural lycee, the Technical lycee, and the General Lycee. Agricultural lycee teaches students everything about agriculture. Technical lycee teaches students about economic, technology, engineering and others. General lycee includes French language, Foreign Languages, Philosophy, Mathematics, Physics, Biology and Earth Science.
