The Economy of Germany

Since 1999, the German currency is the Euro. Previously it was the Mark.

Germany rose as an economic world power in the decade of the 60s.

The unification of the two Germanys, East and West Germany, resulted in trouble for both economies. In spite of that, Germany still is a world economic power.

The motor of the German economy is the industrial sector, producing a great variety of articles. Their main products are machinery, chemical products, processed foodstuff, transportation equipment and electronic equipment.

Germany has an important fishing and forestry sector.

Mining has a small position in the German economy.

Agriculture does not have an important role in the German economy as the country imports one third of its food supplies.
