Health and Safety in Germany


Health Care

The health care system of Germany is excellent. Their facilities are superb and the medical professionals very qualified.

Health services, hospital, clinics and medication are very expensive. If you plan to stay in the country any length of time, it would be advisable, may be even required, that you obtain health insurance.

In Germany it is compulsory to have health insurance prior to enrolling in any university program or to obtain a resident permit for a stay longer than 3 months.

For residents, there are two health insurance systems, a public and a private one. The government manages the public system. The private system offers greater coverage.

Safety

Germany is a pretty safe in general although there areas not as safe.

The number to call the police in Germany is 110 and it can be dialed free of charge from any public telephone.
