The Climate in Dominican Republic

The climate of Dominican Republic is warm and humid, with little cyclic change in temperatures, which average around 25°C. The rainy season is from the month of October to April in the north coast and from May to November in the south coast. The yearly average rainfall in the country is 150 cm. The western part of the country is the driest area; the central valleys obtain the least rain. The cooler temperature is normally encountered within November and April, though the mountain areas are much cooler as you expected.

Weather disturbances such as tropical storms, tropical depressions and hurricanes typically occur once every 2 years. Above 65% of the hurricanes happen in the southern region of the country, particularly alongside Hoya de Enriquillo. Periods from December to April, during which most North Americans escape for a short tropical vacation and June to December when Europeans get their summer vacations, are the best times to visit the country. The required clothes are lightweight fabrics is well-matched to the tropical hot temperatures. Waterproofs are necessary throughout the rainy seasons.
