Health and Safety in Algeria


In Algeria there is one doctor for every 2.1 hospital beds for every 1,000 persons.

The health system is poor and water contamination produces illnesses such as tuberculosis, hepatitis, cholera, malaria and dysentery.

There are problems with malnutrition and eye related diseases such as trachoma.

Since 1974 the Algerian people receive free medical care.

Life expectancy is 73.3 years.

It is easier to find doctors in the cities of the North than South of the Sahara.
