Transportation

Air – The main international airport Houari Boumediene is located in Algiers, at 20 kilometers from the capital
There are airports in other main cities such as Oran, Annaba and Constantina.
The international airline is Air Algérie.

Train – The main cities in the North of Algeria are link together by railroad.
The most important rail system is along the coast from Tunisia to Morocco and toward the Northern part of the Sahara.

Roads. If you wish to enter the country with your car, you must obtain insurance, purchased at the border or at the free port. The insurance will vary depending on the length of time you will stay in the country.
Gasoline is less expensive than in nearby countries. Diesel is more available and easiest to find.
If you wish to drive in the dessert, you should take a 4-wheel drive vehicle.
You may not be able to find a car rental in Algeria. If you do, it will probably be expensive.

There is a national bus company name SNTV for those who wish to travel by bus.
The most important cities have a bus depot. The rest have offices to make reservations and take the bus.
To travel by bus in Algeria is fast and comfortable, even though not all roads are in good conditions.
If you need to travel on a road that is in bad condition, there are special all-terrain busses that can access any of the interesting areas of Algeria.

Hitchhiking in Algeria is common and allowed. It is most frequent outside of the cities. You might want to avoid because of the risks involved.

The larger cities have taxi services. The taxis could lack a distance/cost meeter, so it migh be better to negociate the price with the cab driver before you get started.

Internet

Algerie Telecom is national telephone company of Algeria and it is responsible for setting up, operating, and supplying telecommunications networks and services.
The company operates a telephone network of 2 million users, a GSM network, a pubic dialup network, a VSAT national coverage network, and Internet services.
