Best places to visit in Estonia

You are here: Countries / Estonia

Estonia is a small country that boasts of a number of good places to see. Talinn, Estonia’s capital epitomizes the image of an ancient town that is winded and accentuated by cobbled streets. Being the country’s historic center, Talinn is also a major tourist attraction that can be fully enjoyed by walking. This old town is divided into two sections: the residential area of Toompea Hill resided centuries ago by people of aristocratic lines and gentry in the days of the yore and the Lower Town.

The extremely well-preserved buildings and establishments in the Old Town manifest defensive stone buildings that stand both time and frequent invasions centuries ago. Visitors will behold the sight of the Town Hall Square, old Churches like St. Olav’s (the tallest church in Medieval Europe), Alexander Nevsky Russian Orthodox Cathedral, and St. Catherine’s passage which gives every passerby an opportunity to see through open studios of artists and craftsmen who have labored hard in the past centuries. The good news about going to these magnificent places is: free admission to the museums and free rides and tours on public transports.

The Talinn Zoo shouldn’t be missed by visitors who desire to see animals like Polar bears, Siberian tigers, crocodiles, chimpanzees, and other 6,000 animals housed in the Tropical House. The Botanical Garden in Talinn is another must-see and it covers 110 hectares of land where more than 8,000 species of plants live. Displayed in arboretums, glasshouses, open fields, and thematic gardens, these species of plants will provide you with overwhelming sight-seeing experience. Other equally good places to see in Talinn are: Rocca al Mare Tivoli, Estonia’s largest amusement park, Kadriog Palace and Park, and Estonian Open Air Museum.
