Health and Safety in France

The French health care system was ranked first worldwide by the World Health Organization in 1997 and its hospital system is broadly considered superior to even other developed countries like the United States. France is almost entirely free for people affected by chronic diseases such as cancers, AIDS or Cystic Fibrosis. Statistical life expectancy at birth is 79.73 years. The HIV/AIDS prevalence rate is 0.4%.

There are no major health risks in France.

Generally considered a safe place, France was rocked by violent clashes between police and gangs of disenfranchised young people across France in 2005. The riots were symbolic of a growing discontent among ethnic minorities who live outside the main cities in ghettoized communities.
