Getting to and fro the cities and regions of Ghana is easy as there are always available means of transportation by land, by air, or by sea. If you are travelling by air, you must take note that there are 12 airports in Ghana – 7 of which having paved runways. The Kotoka International Airport in Accra is the major airport in the country which caters to local and international carriers. Other domestic airports in country are in Sekondi-Takoradi, Tamale, and Kumasi. The major airline company of Ghana was once called African Airways Corporation and became known as Ghana Airways in 1958. In 2005, it changed its name to Ghana International Airlines and flies to destinations in Europe, Middle East, and Africa.

The railway system in Ghana was once effective but is now undergoing major rehabilitation due to change in gauge in the earlier times. As of the change, there are no railway links to its neighbouring countries and only a few railroads are accessible within the country. The Ghana Ministry of Ports, Harbours and Railways has been doing their projects to bring back their railway system together with the Ghana Railway Corporation which is the major railway company of the country. Target railroads include Kintampo, Paga, Ejisu, and Hamile lines.

Ports are located in the southern region of the country in the cities of Takoradi and Tema. Transportation means in these areas are vital as these are where major trading of gold and cocoa occur. Transportation fare in Ghana is cheap but some vehicles can be a bit uncomfortable. Some say it is best to ride taxis whenever going to and fro cities.
