It is bounded by the Indian Ocean on the south, the Arabian Sea on the west, and the Bay of Bengal on the east and has a coastline of over 7000 kilometers. It borders Pakistan to the west; China, Nepal, and Bhutan to the north-east; and Bangladesh and Myanmar to the east.

New Delhi is the second-largest metropolis in India and capital of several empires in ancient India. New Delhi was declared the capital of India after India gained independence from British rule in 1947. It is the seat of government as well as an important educational and cultural center. Some of the most prestigious universities in the country such as Delhi University, Jawaharlal Nehru University, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, Jamia Millia Islamia and Indira Gandhi National Open University are located in Delhi.

Mumbai is the capital of the state of Maharashtra and the most populous city of India. Mumbai is the commercial and entertainment capital of India, and houses important financial institutions, such as the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), the National Stock Exchange of India (NSE) and the corporate headquarters of many Indian companies. The city is also home to India's prolific Hindi film industry, known as Bollywood.
