The Climate in Jamaica

The Jamaican climate is normally pleasant. The typical temperature is 25.5°C in the winter and 28°C in summer, but the country’s climate is deeply affected by the ocean, which can create cloud cover, wind and rain, and have a rapid outcome on temperatures. The winter months are from December to April. It has the finest climate, hot and sun-drenched by daylight and warm at night. During the month of July, August and September it can be extremely hot.

The yearly average rainfall the country experiences is around 50.7 inches. The rainy seasons are May to June and October to November. The wettest part of Jamaica is the eastern coast of the country as it reclines on the windward part compare to the southwestern coast of Jamaica which is semi-barren and receives very little rain. The country lies in the hurricane belt. Between July and October is the hurricane season, although a hurricane may seldom occur in June or November. Currently, the weather stations give warning to those places that might be affected by the hurricane.

The clothing required is a set of lightweight cottons and informal linens. For evenings clothes it is advisable to wear light woolens. Cap or bonnet and waterproofs are useful all year round.
