The small country of Kosovo located at Southeast Europe, bordering the countries of Macedonia in the southeast, Albania in the southwest, Montenegro in the west and Serbia in the north, experiences a continental climate mostly throughout the year, characterized by warm summers and snowy winters. An average of 30oC during summers and -10oC during winters is applicable in most areas of the country.

However, because of the differences in altitude in the country where there are mountains and plains, certain areas experience a different climate compared to the others of different terrain. At that, Kosovo is divided into 3 climatic areas. The climatic area of Kosovo has a dry climate with influences by the continental air masses. Winters are colder, reaching up to -26oC, and summers are very hot with temperature reaching up to 37oC. The climatic area of Dukagjini is characterized by cool winters, with temperatures from 0.5oC to 22oC, with heavy snowfall. Its climate is influenced by the hot air masses which cross the Adriatic Sea. Lastly, the climatic area of the mountains and forests are characterized by much precipitation, very short and cool summers, and cold winters.

It is coldest in Kosovo during the months of December to January and warmest in July to August. More precipitation is experienced during the months of October until December and more snowfalls are expected during the months of November until March (except in the mountains). It is best to visit the country of Kosovo during the months of May until September.
