Getting Visas to Sri Lanka

Citizens from 81 countries are permitted to enter Sri Lanka without entry visas and require only showing of round-trip airplane ticket, to establish intent of going back to their original country of domicile, and must have spending money. This list of 81 pre-approved countries, also known as Schedule A as designated by Sri Lanka’s Department of Immigration and Emigrations Office, are given automatic 30 days landing visas. However, as with other countries accepting tourists, and in case 30 days is not enough to have a feel of the country’s splendor, one can possibly apply for a further extension of another 2 months. Application of re-extension should be coursed through the country’s Department of Immigration and Emigrations Office. The requirements for a 30-day visa extension are: the accomplishment of a Visit visa application, copies of bio-data page of passport, two passport-sized pictures and payment of fees related to extension of said visa.

Foreigners interested in doing business with Sri Lanka should obtain a business visa. For purposes only of business promotion, business discussion and consultancy, inspection of quality of goods and installation of foreign purchased equipments a Multiple Entry visa may be granted. For each visit, a maximum of three months is allowed in a year. Foreign nationals interested to invest or explore investment opportunities in Sri Lanka may also avail of a Multiple Entry visa. Same with a business visa, Investor visa allows for three-month-visits per entry in a year. For a multiple visit visa, accomplishment of a B2 form, valid passport, three 3.5 x 4.5 cm sized pictures, documentary proof of multiple entry visit, evidence of financial standing, written assurance to return to homeland, finger prints (if necessary) and any other documents that may be pertinent are the requirements needed in applying a business/investor visa.
