All health services in the country are free. Every province has a main hospital and regional clinics and maternity-care centers. The 2 primary hospitals are Hospital Befelatnana (1,300 beds) and Fort Dauphin Hospital (80 beds).

The Lutheran Church in the country runs the biggest health care systems assisted by Global Health Ministries: 22 health centers, 14 clinics and 8 hospitals. The Global Health Ministries funds several projects in the country, as well as the entire shipments of equipment and health supplies in cooperation with Salfa Overseas Assistance.

Malaria is one of the main health problems. It is a critical disease and perhaps a deadly infection. If you suffer from flue or fever illness while roaming in a malaria-danger area, you should look for medical attention immediately and inform the physician about your travel history. Several major endemic infections are malaria, schistosomiasis, tuberculosis and leprosy. Other diseases that may experience in the country are HIV/ AIDS, hepatitis, rabies, polio, tetanus, measles, ddiphtheria, pertussis, and plague.

Car accidents are a primary cause of wound among tourists. In protecting yourself from this accidence avoid drinking while driving, wear seat belt, follow the traffic rules and avoid overloaded passenger bus.
