Local Services in Madagascar

The cheapest way to travel in Tana is by taxi-be or also known as big taxi, a bit bigger compare to mini-van. Buses operate often throughout peak season. Traveling by train in the country is not as fast as you expected but you will like the wonderful landscapes and find out the Malagasy dish and fruits offered in every stop over while traveling. The rail lines in the country are Fianarantsoa to Manakara, Antananarivo to Antsirabe and Ambatondrazaka via Moramanga (presently inactive but perhaps resume).

The airlines that operates in the country are Air Madagascar (considered as the national, which is based in Antananarivo and also operates services to Asia, Europe and a wide domestic network) and Tiko Air (located in Antananarivo and launched in 2000 by the Air Madagascar and Tiko Holding Company).

To name some of the airports that operate in Madagascar are Antsirabato (Antalaha), Ambalabe (Antsohihy), Belo Sur Tsiribihina (Belo), Fascene (Nosy Be), Ankaizina (Bealanana)and Ivato International Airport (Antanànarìvo).

One of the necessary modes of communication in Madagascar is the telephone. In 2003, there are around 60,000 people using telephones in the country. There are about 279,500 cellular phone users. Internet is also available in the country and there are 70,500 internet users. Radio broadcast stations are AM 2 (plus a number of repeater stations), FM 9, shortwave 6 and for 1 television broadcast station. There are almost 3 million people using radios and around 325,000 television users.
