Local Services in Mongolia

Tourists can travel around Mongolia by plane, train, taxi, and rental cars. The MIAT Mongolian Airlines and Eznis Airways both offer domestic flights to key cities. A total of 44 international and domestic airports are operating in Mongolia as of 2006. The Trans-Mongolian Railway offers an amazing ride by passing through Mongolia (Ulaanbaatar), China (Beijing, Hohhot, Erenhot), and Russia (Moscow, Irkutsk, Ulan-Ude). Taxis and buses are still the cheapest and easiest way to tour around the cities. The most UB Taxi is the most popular taxi services in Mongolia that charges approximately 400 Tugrik ($0.3) for a 5-minute ride.

Mongolia started rehabilitating its communication infrastructure since the start of the new millennium. The Mongolian government is committed in increasing the number of mobile-based stations over laying landlines particularly in the countryside. Some of the major mobile providers include Mobicom Corporation, Skytel, Unitel, and G-Mobile. Dial-up is still the most popular way to connect to the Internet though broadband and wireless Internet are slowly being brought in. Some of the ISPs in the country are Boldsoft, Digicom, RailCom, Magicnet, Bodicom, and Micom. Internet cafes are easily found in key cities. The capital city Ulaanbaatar has 20 FM stations. There are at least 10 commercial TV broadcast stations in Mongolia plus the national TV broadcast station Mongolian National Broadcaster. Cable TV operators include Sansar CaTV, Khiimori CaTV, SuperVision CaTV, Suljee CaTV, New Orange CaTV, and MNBC CaTV.
