Best places to visit in Malta

You are here: Countries / Malta

Malta may be only about 316 sq. kilometers, just a little bigger than New York City, but it is packed with many interesting tourist attractions enough to boost the economy.

One of the many sites to see in the exciting land of Malta is the famed Megalithic Temples. These ancient temples have been erected around 3500 to 2500 B.C. and because of which are considered UNESCO World Heritage sites. The Megalithic Temples of Malta are considered the oldest free-standing architectural marvels in the face of the planet.

Another site to whet the sight-seeing appetite of tourists visiting Malta is the fortified medieval city of Mdina. The fortified city showcases the medieval torture chambers as well as the fabulous Cathedral and museum that have all sorts of knightly paraphernalia from armor to weapons, they got it all. Tourists can be sure all the things up there are authentic and were really used by real knights. All those fascinated with medieval knights and the legendary Knights Templar would have a grand time visiting this fortress.

The Roman Villa or the Museum of Roman Antiquities in Rabat would also make one feel how the Romans stationed in Malta were living it up back then. Aside from the Roman museum, the numerous catacombs would also give tourists an eerie experience as one can only imagine the age of the ghost that must be floating around the area if one believes in ghosts.

Tourists would also have a lot of sites to visit in the island of Gozo. Gozo also has a fortified citadel which had been used in thwarting Ottoman offensives. Not be missed while in Gozo is the Nadur Carnival.

If a trip to the past is not one’s cup of tea then tourists can always bask in the sun and frolic in Malta’s magnificent beaches. Nothing quite gives the Mediterranean experience like the shores of Malta does.
