Health and Safety in Norway

Norway’s health care system is well developed and consists of both public and private medical services and facilities. There is universal access to publicly-provided health care at all ages and for a very wide variety of treatments. Emergency medical services are also advanced and because Norway is dotted with houses at great distances from each other, sometimes helicopters are used instead of ambulances.

There are no major health risks in Norway. Malaria is not present. Take personal protective measures against ticks when walking in rural fields and forests. Community sanitation is generally good, and health concerns related to foods and beverages are minimal.

Norway has a relatively low crime rate. Take precautions against petty theft and pickpocketing. Avoid poorly lit areas after dark. Residential burglaries, auto theft, and vandalism to parked cars can also occur on occasion.
