The Norwegians rejected membership of the then European Economic Community in 1972, and of the European Union in 1994, despite being urged by their governments to vote positively.
The capital of Norway is Oslo, also the largest city in the nation. Oslo is one of the most expensive cities in the world. As of 2006, it was ranked tenth according to the Worldwide Cost of Living Survey provided by Mercer Human Resource Consulting and first according to the Economist Intelligence Unit.
