Health and Safety in Oman


Hospitals and health services in Oman are modern and are quite accessible. Fact is there is at least one hospital present in Oman’s cities and major towns. The biggest hospitals in Oman undoubtedly offer high-tech equipment and expert-trained staff. The Muscat Private Hospital, a general hospital in Bausher, and the Apollo Medical Center LLC, also found in Muscat, provide various medical services that range from dentistry to surgery. The Royal Hospital is under the ownership and administration of the Ministry of Health, and likewise provides excellent medical assistance, although its services are quite limited. In general, visitors should have health insurance when travelling. On the other hand, public health service is free for Oman’s citizens.

Shots that prevent Diphtheria, Hepatitis A and B, Malaria, Tuberculosis, Rabies, Tetanus, and Typhoid are recommended but are not strictly required for entry. Precautions against Yellow Fever are likewise recommended although the disease risk is not high in Oman. On the other hand, Yellow Fever vaccination is indeed required if the visitor is from an infected area or a high-risk region.

Water from outside the capital area are potable but are essentially not recommended for drinking. For visitors, it is best to be safe with boiled, bottled, or sterilized water for consumption since these products are readily available in the market in any case. The same precautions apply for dairy products. Food products from known supermarkets are deemed safe and clean.
