Religious beliefs in Peru

The official religion of Peru is Roman Catholicism. It plays a significant role in Peru’s culture and society. Aside from Roman Catholicism other religion based in Peru are Hinduism, Buddhism, Muslim, Hare Krishna, Protestant, Judaism, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and Jehovah's Witness. About 81% of the population of Peru considers themselves as Catholic, 6.7% belongs to other Christian sects, 2.6% as of other appellations, and 0.2% do not have any religion.

Famous solemnizations are the product of every town's legends and traditions. The solemnizations gather dances, music, meals and typical drinks. Religious celebrations refers to Corpus Christi or holy week, Christmas, while there are others that show the unification of the indigenous peoples' impression with the Christians. For instance, a variety of festivity is the Alasitas, it consists of a miniature fair with dances, crafts, meals and a mass celebration.

All town, city and villages have its own official cathedral or church and patron saint. Particular religious days are noted annually. These forms of activities are focal events and play central roles in the life of all sizes and kinds of community. The costs for the said affairs depend on the size of the community. Both spiritual devotion and hope are to serve in community affairs for prestige and possibly political purposes. The most famous of these activities are the patron festivals that are celebrated yearly. Peru’s constitution gives its citizen the right to practice any religion.
