The telephone system of Portugal is considered to be one of the most sophisticated in Western Europe. It has integrated set-up of coaxial cables, microwave radio delay, open-wire and satellite earth stations. By the end of 2004, Portugal has about 4.3 million fixed line subscribers. Major players in the mobile phone market include TMN, UZO, Yorn and Rede4. The total number of mobile subscribers reached almost 11 million in 2004 with access to 3G/3.5G cell networks. As of 1999, there are 20 ISPs operating in Portugal. By the end of 2006, almost 37% of the population had high-speed Internet connection.
