The capital city of Asuncion offers sights of historical colonial buildings, tastes of international cuisines, as well as the warmth of friendly people, chic malls and stylish nightclubs. Just like any other major city, Asuncion has her own share poverty, disease, poor public service as well as humid weather. Nevertheless she is still a place worthy to look at.

Ciudad del Este’s major streets is flooded with electronic goods. Named after a former dictator it’s trying really hard to remove the stigma of being one of South America’s corrupt cities. The city though offers some excellent eateries.

The second most populated city in Paraguay is Concepcion. Despite the earthquakes of 1939 and 1960 which wipe out most of the historical buildings, the city is home to many of the country’s industries as well as port services and universities. The city’s downtown has beautiful plazas, pedestrian malls and lively nightlife.

Encarnacion has a shopping center offering bargain prices and is the heart of the country’s Carnaval. The city is also the gateway towards the Jesuit ruins located at Trinidad and Jesus.

Filadelfia is a Mennonite place that looks more like a Munich suburb located in a South American country. The homes are lined in an orderly grid and most of the people are of European descent. The German greeting of Guten tag is usually the norm. The place could feel quite surreal.

Gran Chaco is a vast plain which accounts for more than 60% of the country’s territory yet only around 3% percent of Paraguayans live here. This is a good place to stay away from the crowd and commune with nature.
