Local Services in Romania

Bucharest is the only city in Romania that has access to an underground railway system – the Bucharest Metro and the light rail system Regia Autonomă de Transport Bucureşti. The Bucharest Metro has an average of 750,000 passengers during the workweek. It has currently 4 metro lines: M1 Line (Dristor-Pantelimon); M2 Line (Pipera-Depour IMGB); M3 Line (Industriilor-Linia de Centura); M4 Line (1 Mai-Gara de Nord, to be reopened in 2010); and M5 Line (Ghencea-Pantelimon, to be opened in 2014). As of 2006, Romania has more than 11 international and 6 domestic airports. The country has one of the most modern airport infrastructures in Eastern Europe.

Television is the primary way to communicate information in the country. The government-owned TVR and private stations Pro TV and Antena 1 have the big audience shares. As of 2007, Romania has about 4 million landline subscribers. The top fixed-line providers include Romtelecom, RCS&RDS, and UPC Romania. The same period, roughly 19.5 million mobile users have been reported; the leading wireless providers are Orange, Vodafone, and Cosmote. Access to Internet is readily available throughout the country – dial-up, cable, DSL, wireless, and mobile connections.
