Religious Beliefs and Spirituality in Singapore

Singapore is a multicultural land and there are people who follow diverse religious practices. Among the Chinese population, Buddhism and Taoism are the most popular while ancestor worship and other Chinese sects also have their followers. According to the 2000 census, Buddhists make up 42.5% of the population while Taoists form 8.5%. Islam is the official religion of the Malays, but there are also converts among the Indian, Chinese and other communities and Muslims constitute 14.9% of the population. Christians represent 13% of Singapore society and some 4% of Singaporeans are Hindus, almost all Indian.
