The Weather and Climate in Syria

The country of Syria is wide in area which is why its climate is varied from different regions. Its western part of the country experiences a mild, Mediterranean climate. As you move inland all the way to the eastern part of the country, the climate becomes hotter characterized by an extremely arid desert climate. This is because the eastern part of Syria is mainly composed of deserts.

Summers in Syria are from the months of June up to August, and are hot and sunny. There is very high humidity and average temperature is about 29oC. Highest summer temperature is about 35oC though it is obviously hotter in the desert areas, where average temperature is 40oC and can reach up to 46oC high. There are about 12 to 13 hours of sunshine during this season.

Winters in Syria are from the months of December to February and is characterized by a cold weather but milder in the coastal areas. Snow and frost are often present and temperature averages for about 10oC and can get colder sometimes. The mountainous parts of the country experience colder winters as compared to the inland and desert areas. There are about 6 to 7 hours of sunshine in the country during this season.

Syria does not experience much rainfall which leads to their problem of having lack of water reserves. There is more amount of rainfall in the coastal areas and less in the inland steppes. Extremely low amount of rainfall is expected of the desert region.
