The Education System in Venezuela

The education in the country of Venezuela is very organized and systematic and is provided to all. The standard education in the country is among the highest in the region. Of Venezuelans aged 15 and older, 93.4% can read and write, one of the highest literacy rates in the region. The basic education is imparted by the primary and secondary schools of Venezuela. Public education from kindergarten through university is free, and education is compulsory for children ages 6 through 15. The Venezuelan government remains committed to the idea that every citizen is entitled to a free education despite some criticism of the system. Approximately 20% of the national budget is assigned to education. As of 1995, public expenditure on education was estimated at 5% of GDP.

The school year extends from September to June-July. The student population and the education budget have increased, but many children do not attend school because of poverty. The population of Venezuela has an estimated 20% of which don’t have formal education. Children under 5 years old attend a preschool. Children are required to attend school from the age of six. They attend primary school until they are seven. They are then promoted to the second level of basic education, where they stay until they reach at 14 or 15 years of age. All of which are free from cost.

There are many important schools in this country, which form an important part of the overall educational system of Venezuela. With a rich and strong economy, Venezuela makes substantial investments in the educational sector. The curricula at both the levels of education are decided carefully to ensure maximum benefit for the students.
