Samoa has an active service sector that accounts for 63% of GDP contribution in 2001. Tourism happens to be the main propeller along with finance, hotel and restaurant, telecom, and transport services. These comprise the simply efficient service-providing industries in the country.

Tourism has been the primary stimulant of the service sector. Average annual tourist visits amounted to 40,000 as it is regarded as the fifth most-visited South Pacific destinations (along with Tonga). No doubt, it is attributed to the rich natural attractions in the country.

Hotels and restaurants are widespread across the territory. There is the Samoa Hotel Association established to regulate accommodation packages such as the top-notched Samoan hotels like the Coconut Beach Club Resort and Spa, Sinalei Reef Resort and Spa, and Sa’Moana Resort.

Transport services are made accessible in land via buses, taxis, and hired cars; water via ferry, motorized vessels, and wharf; and air via Air New Zealand, Air Pacific, Polynesian Airlines, and Samoa Air. In fact, there is an affluent collection of transportation facilities such as the 866 km highway system, two ferry terminals, and three airports. Rehabilitation projects including the Road Transport Reform Act of 2008 were launched to further boost the transport sector, too.

Other services include the telecom and finance sectors. Telecom sector is dominated by the largest telecom provider known as Samoa Tel which offers telephone, mobile, and broadband subscriptions. Finance sector is fuelled by banking services with six banks in the national setting. Among the list are three prominent trading commercial banks consist of Bank of Samoa, National Bank of Western Samoa, and Pacific Commercial Bank.
