Bolivia is the heart of South America . It neighbors Brazil to the east and north, Paraguay to the southeast, Argentina to the south and Chile and Perú to the west. The charming colonial city of Sucre is the Constitucional Capital of Bolivia .

AREA:

With an area of 1.098,581 km2, Bolivia is the fifth largest country in South America after Brazil , Argentina , Peru and Colombia .

POLITICAL SYSTEM:

Bolivia is an independent country with a democratic goverment.

LANGUAGE:

Bolivia 's official languages are Spanish, Quechua and Aymara. The latter two are commonly spoken in the Andean regions. Guaraní is another native Bolivian language spoken in the eastern part of the country. There are over 30 indigenous languages spoken in Bolivia .

RELIGION:

The country's political constitution recognizes freedom of worship. Most people are Catholic. There are also temples, churches and followers of the most popular religions in the world.

CURRENCY:

The official currency is the boliviano. (Bs.)

TIME:

The official time for the whole of Bolivia is – 04:00 in relation to the Greenwich Meridian. (GMT).

AVERAGE TEMPERATURES:

The yearly average temperature ranges from 8.3 ºC in the highlands (altiplano) to 26.1 ºC in the western low lands.

WEATHER:

Bolivia has a wide range of climates. In the lowlands the weather varies from warm to tropical. In the highlands the weather tends to be colder and drier.

SEASONS:

Spring begins on September 21 st ; Summer begins on December 21 st ; Fall follows on March 21 st ; and winter on June 21 st . Each season has different characteristics depending on the ecological region.
