It is mandatory to have an health insurance that cover you while in Spain. You must contact your health insurance company to know what paperwork will be required for you to use while in Spain (detailed bills, diagnoses and treatments clearly spelled out in case of a visit to Hospital occurs).

European Union nationals are covered through the state insurance fund but it is necessary obtain all documents before leaving your country (Form E111). Non EU nationals should have a private health insurance. Do not forget to keep all your invoices or/and receipts. Remember that most of the insurances do not cover emergencies if the student has taken any alcoholic substance or if he/she carries a disease from his/her country of origin.
