Greek (Ancient)
Traditional authors established their ideas and hypotheses in classical Greek or Latin and are thought of as the forerunners of Western culture in many areas: philosophy, natural sciences, theatre, art, literature, mathematics and astronomy. The Gospels were written in Greek and then translated into Latin. Western philosophy is founded on the workings of philosophers like Plato and Aristotle. Unless you know the Greek and Roman myths it is almost impossible to comprehend much of Western art. Studying Greek is critical for a deeper understanding of all Romance languages, it also contributes to a better grasp of English.
