Huaiyin Teachers University, which was named Huaiyin Teachers University before 1997 (HYTC), is located in Huaian City proper. It is a very quiet campus in downtown area and about 5 minutes walk from big department stores, supermarkets, banks, post office and the bus-stops. Founded in 1958, Huaiyin Teachers University is a state-running institution of higher education. It provides 40 specialties for students of four-year bachelor programs and 15 specialties for students of three-year programs. Current enrolment exceeds 13,000 full-time students. The university also has more than 4000 adults studying in their spare time in the 42 specialties of four-year and three-year programs. It retains an academic staff of 1248 and maintains advanced teaching facilities in its Computer Fine Arts Complex, the Digital Music Lab, the University Production Studio, the Radio Station with Satellite and TV Receivers, and retains the University Journal and three additional University Publications. The multi-functional Shao Yifu Library possesses a collection of 1.02 million titles, and nearly 1770 national and international academic journals. Jiangsu Provincial Government has honored the University with three major awards, including the title of ?Jiangsu Garden Campus University?. Huaiyin Teachers University is among the first educational institutes in China authorized to retain the services of international teachers and scholars, and it is one of the governmental educational institutions which have the qualifications to take in international students. An active international exchange programs maintain educational ties with the United States, Russia, Canada, Australia, South Korea and Malaysia. The university continues to strengthen international educational ties with colleges and universities around the world. Information for International Students I. Courses: A. Chinese Language B. Chinese Culture and Literature C. Group program: 1. Summer Camp: intensive training in Chinese language 2. Cultural experience: visits to places of historic interests and getting more acquainted with Chinese culture and history. 3. Short-term training of Chinese language for 1-3 months. 4. Special training according to the requirements. II. Categories of students and qualifications. A. Short-term students: 18-55 years old, healthy; B. Ordinary trainee: 18-55 years old, healthy; C. Undergraduates students: senior middle school graduates and above, with the Certification and Academic Transcript plus HSK score. For the applicants without HSK scores, they are required to attend the preparatory courses first; healthy III. Application and Admission A. Applicants can download the ? Application Form for International Students? at http://www.hytc.edu.cn/xiaonei_dh/waishiban/sapform.doc. B. The applicants fill in the forms and send them back to the Foreign Affairs Office via mail or email. C. After verification, the office informs the applicants of their acceptance. For those students who need Visa X, the office sends the applicants ? Admission Notice and China Visa Application Form (briefly called [ JW202 Form] ) after receiving the application fee of US$ 20, which can be switched as registration fee upon the applicant?s arrival. D. For the Short-term students for the course of Chinese Language or Chinese Culture and Literature, the office can provide necessary materials for them to apply for Visa F. Note: Applications are accepted from March through June for the first semester, which begins in early September. Applications for the second semester, which begins in late February, are accepted from last September through the January of the following year. Short-term students are welcome at any time of the year, IV. Tuition fee ( in US dollars). A. Short-term student: $ 60 per week or negotiable Ordinary trainee: $ 1200 per year Undergraduate students: $ 1300 per year Group program: negotiable B. Registration fee / Application fee: $ 20 C. Books and reference materials: $ 20?40 V. Withdrawal and Refunds: A. The registration fee of US$ 20 is non-refundable in the case of a student withdrawing an application after being accepted. B. The charges for withdrawal within the first two weeks after the registration shall be 20 % of the full tuition. The charges for withdrawal after the first two weeks shall be full tuition. VI. Accommodation: A. Apartment, with two rooms with air conditioners, living-room with a TV set and a telephone set, bathroom with a water-heater and washing-machine, kitchen with a refrigerator and necessary cooking utensils, free Internet access and water, is $75 per month. Students should pay for their expenses for electricity, phone calls and gas if cooking. The apartment and the expenses can be shared by two or even three students. B. Hotel room with a bathroom, equipped with television, telephone, air-conditioner, free Internet access, water and electricity, $ 9.5 per day. Two students can share the room and the expenses, but they should pay the phone bills C. Plain students dorm, equipped with two beds, bookshelves, desks, telephone set, separate washing room and toilet, free water and electricity, $250 per term, or $ 450 an academic year. The room and the expense can be shared by two students or even four students. D. Meals. Although Huai?an is located in the economically developed Jiangsu province, meal expenses in Huai?an are not high.
