The CIEF was founded in 1902. Since then, it has welcomed students from all over the world each year. The courses are given throughout the year at the University of Burgundy by specialists in the teaching of French as a foreign language. Monthly, semestral, annual and special sessions at all levels are offered as well as refresher courses for teachers of French. The CIEF is also an examination center for the DELF and the DALF.
Students are able to participate with French students in University club activities. Further recreational possibilities, specially organised for them, include winetasting sessions, cookery classes, drama or French song workshops, concerts, cinema, outings and guided tours in and ouside Burgundy.
Accommodation is provided at the Résidence Internationale d?Etudiants, situated near the University. Meals are available there as well as at the University restaurants and cafeterias.
Burgundy is a region with an eventful historic past and a rich artistic heritage. Archaeological sites, well-preserved monuments and fine museum collections testify to prestigious periods in its history. Because of its situation, the region has always been a busy crossroads and a convenient stepping-stone to other parts of Europe : Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, and Italy. In recent years, fast train services have brought Dijon, its capital city, only 1 h 45 from Roissy international airport and 5 h 30 from London. Having no heavy industry and still possessing extensive forests, Burgundy is often praised for its quality of life. Its traditional gastronomy and unique wines provide additional pleasures.
Dijon, once the capital of the Valois Dukes, provides a close-up of Burgundy?s history.
