Its 200-ha residential campus, located in the south-western part of Singapore, was originally developed for a Chinese language university, Nanyang University, in 1955. In 1981, Nanyang Technological Institute (NTI) was established on this campus to educate engineers for Singapore. NTI became Nanyang Technological University in 1991. Besides having one of the largest engineering colleges in the world, NTU has a top-tier business school with one of the top 100 MBA programmes in the world, an internationally acclaimed National Institute of Education, one of the best communication and information schools in Asia, and a biological sciences school at the forefront of Singapore's life sciences initiative.
